"There’s a revolution underway in South America..."
South of the Border takes a look at the progressive social movements taking place in Latin America.
Filmmaker Oliver Stone sets out on a road trip across five countries to explore their social and political movements. He gives space to voices seldom heard in the mainstream media: Presidents Hugo Chávez (Venezuela), Evo Morales (Bolivia), Lula da Silva (Brazil), Cristina Kirchner (Argentina), as well as her husband and ex-President N?stor Kirchner, Fernando Lugo (Paraguay), Rafael Correa (Ecuador), and Raúl Castro (Cuba). The fascinating documentary explores the changes sweeping the continent.
With Chavez's recent success at the polls, and as solidarity and mutual support is strengthened across an increasing number of countries through the Bolivarian Alliance for Latin America (ALBA), it is clear that Latin America is building an alternative to capitalism and crisis. The region, with Cuba at its heart, means opposition to imperialism, oppression and exploitation, and the struggle for humanity and progress.
There will time for discussion after the documentary, with input from Sam McGill, recently returned from a brigade to Venezuela to cover the elections.
