Venezuela 2012 Report Back Meeting
Event date: November 06, 2012 19:00
Bar Loco, 22 Leazes Park Road, Newcastle
Join us as we report back from the Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! delegation to Venezuela.
Find out more about the revolutionary alternative to capitalist austerity being built - hear eyewitness reports from the delegation, who were in Caracas over the election period interviewing activists, workers, students, doctors and more, to find out what the process of the Bolivarian Revolution means to them.
There will be time for discussion, plus footage and photos; we want to bring you the truth that the British press does not want you to hear or see. The media in Britain is controlled by a handful of privately-owned multinational corporations, in alliance with a corrupt and complicit political and economic elite – including the government.
Since the 1998 election of Hugo Chavez, Venezuelan people have been building a Socialist alternative. Seizing the country's oil wealth from economic elites and US multinationals and pumping it back into public services, health programs, education; changing lives across Latin America.
British corporate media does not ‘objectively’ inform us about this process – how grassroots, mass mobilisations have transformed the lives of millions of Venezuelans. It's our job to publicise the alternative Venezuela is building, showing what can be done when people are put before profit.
The October Presidential elections were a crucial time for Venezuela, and the victory of Chavez is part of a wider process of change, for a better future - come along and find out more!
